Word of the Day: Limitations

Posted by JasonBlumer on Mar 17, 2020 in

Word of the Day: Limitations from Blumer CPAs on Vimeo.Transcript:Yo, yo. It is Word of the Day, and the word of the day today is limitations. I wrote this the other day. I said, "You can't do everything, and you can't be good at everything." That was in a group of entrepreneurs we were leading. That basically means you're limited in your time, which is the first part of that, you can't do everything, and you're limited in your abilities, which is the second part of that, you can't be good at everything. But you know what people value? They value your attention. Actually, your limitations are what leads you to the thing that can be valuable. That's actually true about life in general is too many scattered people focus on too many things. It means you don't go deep enough into something for it to reflect this…

Word of the Day: Risk

Word of the Day: Risk from Blumer CPAs on Vimeo.Transcript:It is word of the day where we pick a word and we tell you what it means to help you run your creative services company better and what is today's word? It is risk. And if I were to define or ask you to define the word risk... I don't know, many definitions. People might say doing something crazy, and that's not what it is actually. I can't believe we've never talked about this on word of the day. Risk is such a huge core foundational part of something you have to do as you run your business. Here's what risk is. Risk is some bet on the future. Is some investment of money. Invest of time now, for the hopeful return or reward of something that you get later. You know what that is? That's a sewing…

Word of the Day: Energy

Word of the Day: Energy from Blumer CPAs on Vimeo.Transcript:It is Word of the Day. And what we do on Word of the Day is we pick one word, and we describe how that can help you strategically in your agency to grow. Today's Word of the Day is energy. So a lot of times we talk about putting an effort in or time in, but energy is a key concept I've read about in a book recently. I want to read you a quote from an HBR, Harvard Business Review article. Here's what it said, "Energy," and it's describing energy, "Energy defined in physics as the capacity to work. Energy comes from four main wellsprings in human beings, the body, emotions, mind and spirit. And each energy can be systematically expanded and regularly renewed by establishing specific rituals." Rituals are practices. So when we become overwhelmed with…

Word of the Day: Maturity

Word of the Day: Maturity from Blumer CPAs on Vimeo.TRANSCRIPT:Hey, hey, it's Word of the Day where we take a word, we pick a word, sometimes a phrase, and we say how that applies to the strategy of growing a services company. Today's word is maturity. Maturity is something entrepreneurs should always be doing. That's the job of an entrepreneur, mature. You should be maturing and growing. Well, what is maturity? Well, I thought about that because I've matured so much in the past five years. I've grown personally to learn a lot about what it means to lead two different companies that my partner and I lead. So basically maturity to me is managing the joys and the trials, these troughs through the life of building a business, right? Managing the ups and downs of these and minimizing the joys, right? Not minimizing the joys, but not…

Word of the Day: Leverage

Word of the Day: Leverage from Blumer CPAs on Vimeo.Transcript:My partner and I were working the other day on our relationship, actually, our partnership relationship, and what we get off the page, she was talking about we can't leverage our relationship. And that makes a lot of sense. Today's word of the day is leverage, and leverage has a lot to do with any kind of creative services business. If you have a big team and that team grows, then you make a leadership team, and that leadership team has different levels of knowledge and then the owners can leverage that leadership team to actually do more work for more people. Leverage, you kind of know what leverage is, right? It's that stick and a fulcrum and you're kind of pressing down on something. And so with a little bit of force based upon that fulcrum you're pushing…

Word of the Day: Perspective

Word of the Day: Perspective from Blumer CPAs on Vimeo.Transcript:It's Word Of The Day. This is class time people. We're going to take a word and we're going to talk about strategically how this can change you and your business and this word is perspective. Have you ever heard somebody say, hey, you need to travel the world. That'll change your life, change how you do business. I've heard that all the time and actually my partner and I were meeting with somebody recently and they talked about some travels they had done to South Africa and how it really, the perspective of the things they learned was just amazing. It challenged them in certain ways to go through that experience. It was a different culture and that's where we learn really who we are, what we're made of, when we do things like travel. Well what it's…

Word of the Day: Inefficiency

Posted by JasonBlumer on Feb 4, 2020 in

Word of the Day: Inefficiency from Blumer CPAs on Vimeo.Transcript:Word of the day class. This word is a big word, fits on the screen, does it? It does. Inefficiency. Inefficiency is part of life. Now we're all trying to be efficient. There ain't nothing wrong with that, right? But sometimes client service, human to human care is really inefficient stuff. Keep that in mind. If you're in a creative services business, you serve humans and you do it with humans on your team. It's a whole bunch of humans, and anytime you have humans in your life, you've got a lot of friction, and there's bound to be inefficiency. Why? Because humans get involved with each other. They get in relationships, they hurt each other, they make each other happy, or whatever they're doing. What that does is it creates a relationship, right, and relationships ain't efficient. Relationships…
